This study is being done to find out if metformin is effective at reducing pain by delaying the onset of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. This research study will compare metformin to placebo. The placebo tablet looks exactly like metformin, but contains no metformin. Placebos are used in research studies to see if the results are due to the study drug or due to other reasons. Metformin is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat type II diabetes. Notably, it also has anti-inflammatory effects, suggesting it could benefit people who have an ACL injury and are undergoing ACL reconstruction. Read Less

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multi-center, phase 3 study to determine the safety and efficacy of TG-C in subjects with Kellgren and Lawrence Grade 2 or 3 Osteoarthritis of the Knee, Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) medial joint space narrowing (JSN) Grade 1 or 2 of the knee joint. In light of the opioid epidemic and evidence suggesting that cannabis may be opioid-sparing, we are in a unique position to conduct a novel, high-impact study that would set the stage for future RCTs examining the effects of a nonintoxicating and nonaddictive cannabinoid in an orthopedic patient population. Epidiolex®, an oral cannabidiol (CBD) solution, is the first ever cannabis-derived medication to be approved by the Food & Drug Administration. Our aim is to conduct a pilot study using a placebo oral solution, 400mg and 800mg Epidiolex® to gather data on its effects on patients undergoing bilateral total knee arthroplasty (BTKA). We will be estimating whether Epidiolex® is associated with minimal opioid use and adequate analgesia. The GOLF study is a multicenter, prospective study with the goal to investigate golfers' return to the sport following hip, knee or shoulder arthroplasty. The prevalence of return to golf, by level of returning to golf will be assessed at 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months postoperatively. Patients who are active golfers undergoing joint replacement will be identified from outpatient clinics and pre-assessment clinics and given information about the study at least two weeks prior to surgery. Participants in this study must have a desire to return to golf after surgery. Previous studies have only been able to report the return to golf after arthroplasty retrospectively; the prospective nature of this study will allow for a greater understanding of this process.
